One of the best songs ever is "Respect Yourself" by The Staple Singers. Look it up, its good stuff.
I have heard from other artist that selective color is so 80s. I agree, but I have seen it done very tastefully. If its your thing go for it. I have heard other artist say that textures are killing the photography industry. I have seen it done so beautifully I don't see how in the world it is possible to "kill" the industry. I have heard from other artist, don't smooth the skin too much, whiten the teeth, pop the eyes all of it is wrong and makes the person look unreal. I have seen some taken to the extreme but if its your thing go for it. I think every single photograph should be in black and white, its my thing. I don't do it since all clients don't like it but I throw one in there every once in a while to make myself feel warm and fuzzy.
I don't think there is a right or wrong formula for art or anything in general. If its your thing, go for it. If you want to wear snowboots and your Dorothy costume from the Wizard of Oz to the grocery store, I say go for it. I have been seen with a 3 year old like that many, many times. If people are pointing at you or saying your doing things the wrong way who cares? You got this and hey they are talking about you right? Mission accomplished.
Everyone, listen to me now, EVERYONE wants to be noticed. I don't care if they are a famous photographer. They are in every magazine, they travel the world shooting beautiful weddings, or they are on tour showing us other peons how to shoot, they want to be noticed. Everyone does things differently but we are all trying to get to the same goal. I think one of the ways to get noticed is to notice yourself . Toot your horn. You know I am a firm believer in that. Be a little cocky!
Notice someone today for being different and say thank you when someone notices you. As the song would say, "If you don't respect yourself, ain't nobody gonna give a good cahoot!" Maybe it should say notice yourself...Until then
Keep Rockin
