I wanted to stop smoking many, many moons ago. I had tried before, well I say I tried before sometimes I wonder if I really wanted to quit at all. I went to my doctor and she subscribed this little magic pill to help me quit. She said after 7-14 days put them down and it would be a good idea to sign up for the support that they send you in the mail. I was ready. It wasn't even 5 days and I felt like a million bucks. Then the support newsletters started coming once a month to help me remain "sober."
One of the things I remember my support newsletter said was to distance yourself from other smokers. If you plan to go somewhere and you know there is going to smokers, change your plans. If your friends smoke you will have to distance yourself from them or you will be tempted to smoke. Throw away all the ashtrays, matches, lighters, and cigarettes in the house. I couldn't light a candle in the house for a long time!
Same rules apply to people I believe. Don't you always feel bad when your around someone that is in a bad mood all the time? Do you feel on edge when your around someone who you know just isn't the right person to be around? I don't think you should completely ignore those people but I do believe that they are almost like a drug themselves, getting to you. Making you just as depressed or unhappy as they are.
I have this bad habit of wanting to solve everyones problems. Make them happy and feel better about themselves. I always felt like I failed someone if the problems didn't go away. I have realized that some people just want to be unhappy. Some people want to complain, want to have problems or at least create them for themselves. Its very sad to me and I hope they find their happiness, even if I cant show it to them.
Surround yourself with good people, laughter, and corny jokes. I promise you will feel alot better and "sober". By the way, I am still smoke free and I got plenty of corny jokes for you...Until then
Keep Rockin
