I have The Mulberry Tree by Van Gogh hanging in my bathroom. Was that a good opening line? I have it hanging right above my bathtub so I can look at it when I relax in there. I have looked for this tree. It doesn't have to be a mulberry tree but the lone tree in the middle of an open field. I have envisioned so many scenarios with the "tree".
Spring time with little green buds starting to form on the branches with a young couple underneath. A candid photograph of them flirting with each other. Big blue sky above with the whitest clouds scattered across the sky. The empty field shows little sprigs of grass coming up here and there. This photograph is so colorful.
Summer finds a ton of kids playing underneath. The tree is so full it seems to be top heavy. The field has not been mowed and the grass is starting to get tall but still thin enough to see through. Lots of smiles, laughs and you can almost hear the giggles in the photograph. There is not a cloud in the sky and the sun is shining so bright the photograph has a yellowish haze over it.
Fall, oh fall is my favorite vision. The leaves on my tree are orange, yellow, red and small touches of brown. The sun is starting to set and it is glistening through the branches. There is a bride under the low hanging branches. She has a small shy smile on her lips. Her gown is vintage with a lots of lace. No veil but she has her hair in a loose bun with little tendrils hanging down. A bouquet of full pink flowers. The tall grass has turned brown and starts to have little heads on top. The haze of the sun setting mutes the photograph with soft colors.
Winter is sad. The sky is numb. There is not a blade of grass in the field and all the leaves are gone. There is a lonely man underneath the tree dressed in black holding a black umbrella. He is mourning the loss of a loved one. The tree seems to bow down in respect to the lost one. This photograph is in black and white.
My photographs, in my mind, have always shown me how the tree seems to be something that people are drawn to. The young couple sharing their feelings, kids playing and wanting to share their youth, the bride wanting to share her happy day and the man who needs someone to be there with him.
I have always heard human reaction help plants thrive. We all need that. Be the kind of tree that someone wants to carve a heart in or hang a swing on. I find my tree everyday in my family and friends...Until then
Keep Rockin
