Life is a weird thing or at least it has been so far.
When I was young the world seemed so big. Just driving to Jackson from my home seemed like a eternity to get there. I remember always taking a nap. Jackson was the "big" city to us. OMG I just realized how sheltered we were.
We went every year on the same vacation, doing the same things, seeing the same places. I did seem to appreciate it more as I got older but lets appreciate somewhere else besides Gatlinburg! We ate at the same places, stayed in the same hotel and to this day I swear I could drive there with my eyes closed and show you some of the older things that are overshadowed by the new arcades, lights, and restaurants that I would have longed for on one of our repeat trips there.
It seemed like we rented the same movies when we went to Patterson's Grocery. The VCR was like the size of the dashboard in my truck. Saturday nights seemed like the same supper, beans, cornbread and fried potatoes. Where's the meat? Beans are the meat according to my mom.
I think this is what made my family comfortable. Repetition. You mow the yard on the same day. You cook tators and beans on the same day. You rent Savannah Smiles every time you rented movies. Repetition makes a lot of people comfortable. My husband eats the same thing for lunch every day and has for the past several years, that's what he wants and there is nothing wrong with being comfortable. No surprises on whats between the bread at 11:30.
I need to see new things, go new places, try different foods! Break out of the norm. I want to be different. I strive to be different, even in my photography. I don't want to do the same thing everytime. I look for new locations. I spend as much time as I can studying people. What makes them smile. What makes them happy. Everything to me is a potential piece of art. The way she held her hand when she asked a question. Someone told me once I always look like I am reading people when they talk to me. I guess I am.
I just think that we were given this awesome world to explore and we are not. By the way, for the past several years we have gone to Florida on vacation. Stayed at the same condo, eat at the same restaurants, visited the same gift shops. Oh my, we are my parents! This year I added some spice. We are going to Mexico. I have planned for us to ride through the jungle in jeeps, swim in a pool inside a cave and get a massage on the beach. Hows that for different?
Aint nobody gonna say I haven't lived. What are they going to say about you? Try something different when you go out to eat or take the long way home. I promise it wont hurt you...Until then
Keep Rockin
