My favorite television show out of all of the ones that are on the air is CBS Sunday Morning. If you haven't seen it check it out. It is a really cool show.
About a year ago they had a segment on about synaesthesia. People who see colors and shapes when they listen to music. HOW COOL IS THAT? The segment told that many synaesthetes are artist who paint what they see. Most of the art being abstract. The synaesthetes that they interviewed said it was a wonderful experience that never gets old or annoying.
The segment also questioned if everyone had some sort of synaesthetic ability. Take a piece of paper and crayons and listen to music. It doesn't have to be classical. Turn on some Skynard, Jay-Z, Etta James, or some of that country stuff and just draw what you visualize. Now I am not saying a dancing leprechaun is going to jump out in front of you and dance a jig. What do you feel? I tried it. Lots of wavy lines, short marks, circles, looked kinda cool. Ok it looked like something my 3 year old would draw but it is what I felt.
I have always had a close relationship with music. I cant even describe what it does to me. I like to think I can feel music, I would love to see it.
Some people say, "I don't listen to the words. I just like the beat." There is more to a song than just the drums, Phil Collins would definitely disagree with me on that. Listen to the deep hum of the bass, listen to the sharp riffs of the guitar, listen to the words, they are poetry. Although some are not a poem I would read to my daughter at bedtime.
Grab a piece of paper and draw what you see from your favorite song. Draw the beat of the drums that you like so much. Get in touch with your synaesthetic side, you might just create something awesome. If it looks like a 3 year old scribbled on a piece of paper you can blame it on me...Until then
Keep Rockin
You've GOT to be kidding me that Sunday Morning is YOUR favorite show! This is the one TV show that I miss horribly not having a TV any more. Cheers to Sunday Morning...! I absolutely love this delivery of "news" stories...where everyday people share the quirkiness of life itself. yeah for that!
