I did something this morning I hardly ever do, I bought some itunes. I cant stand it either.
I just love the CD/album jackets. The art on the cover, the photographs on the inside, the thank yous and sometimes the lyrics so I don't sing it wrong. Guess I am just old fashion when it comes to my music. My CD collection is absolute heaven to me. Think of the time that goes into designing these. The artist chose particular songs to go on this album; and you (and I) would cut them short by ordering one off of itunes? Why would anyone not want the art that goes with their favorite song? And I have heard millions of songs that never made it to the airwaves that were nothing short of a top song to me maybe next time you shouldn't skip over number 3 and listen to it.
The first album cover (back then cassette cover) that really caught my eye was Hysteria by Def Leppard. It was art, at least to me. This album cover is what made me decide I wanted to be an artist. The colors, the design and not to mention the rockin tunes inside it! Ever since that album I always paid attention to all album covers. I would take out the jacket and read it while I listened. Yeap that sounded nerdy didn't it? As time has evolved I have seen some album covers that are just amazing to me. A portrait that speaks of the message inside or to make a definite statement.
At least itunes is better than one of those free download places. To me it is nothing more than stealing. I wouldn't want someone to "steal" one of my portraits to splash across their facebook or myspace page instead of purchasing one. Even worse I wouldn't want them to re-edit it to add selective color or little hearts on it....ewwww. That is stealing. I am an artist, they are artist, your an artist in what you do. Would you want someone to take that away from you? or burn it for their buddies? It just a code of ethics to me I guess.
What did I purchase from itunes you ask? A group of kids songs to make a mix tape for my studio. Kids seem to loosen up when they hear The Wheels on the Bus. Kids like to rock out too...Until then
Keep Rockin
